Nuns Victims of Real Estate Fraud

In a new low, a Tustin woman who was formerly a student at a boarding school operated by the Sisters of Religious of Jesus & Mary has been charged with three counts of wire fraud for stealing $285,000 from them in a unique form of real estate fraud.

Linda Rose Gagnon, 57, learned that the nuns were attempting to purchase a property in San Diego as a residence and offered to help them, holding herself out as “an expert in real estate transactions and foreclosure sales”. According to prosecutors, Gagnon fabricated a letter from an attorney, which she used to convince the victims to wire the money to her firm Rose Enterprise, Inc. The indictment charges that she used the money for lingerie, pet sitting, salon/nail services, mortgage payments, rental payments, car payments and cash withdrawals.
