SF Radio Host Gets 15 Years for Mortgage Fraud

A San Francisco man who combined his job as a Spanish-language radio host and Realtor® is no longer doing either, as he will be residing in prison for up to 15 years.

Edwin Parada, whose license as a real estate agent was suspended by the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) in December 2007, pleaded guilty to defrauding 31 victims out of more than $2 million. Parada was a pastor and his radio show, which was religion-based, was used to draw in his victims. Most were immigrants with homes they could no longer afford. Parada charged them upfront fees for refinancing, selling or buying their homes, some of which ended up in his own name.

According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Edwin Parada laundered the proceeds of his mortgage fraud through relatives and associates. Outstanding cases against his brother, Carlos Parada, his niece Karla Parada and associate Geovanny Avendano have still to be adjudicated.
